Samsung will be releasing a Galaxy Note 5 handset this year, but when and what specs it will have are still not 100%, at least until the handset is officially announced. We’ve already heard that Samsung is rumoured to be launching the handset early, possibly to better compete with the upcoming iPhone launch and now SamMobile is ‘confirming’ that Samsung is including 4GB of RAM inside the handset.
The confirmation that the Note 5 will be coming with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM is just intuitive given that the new 64-bit processors can now address more than 3GB of RAM, and an extra GB will surely help to smooth over any possible performance bumps that TouchWiz may still suffer despite recent efforts to minimalise it.
According to SamMobile, the Note 5 will use the Exynos 7422 System On Chip (SoC), which is of course a slight step up from the Exynos 7420 that Samsung used in the Galaxy S6. The Exynos 7422 is a 64-bit octa-core processor which will include the CPU, GPU, RAM and Storage on the chip, as well as the Shannon 333 LTE modem used in the Galaxy S6.
Another couple of tidbits from SamMobile is that the Note 5 will use the same wierless charging system incorporating WPC (Qi) and PMA standards as the Galaxy S6. Samsung will also offer the Note 5 in the ‘usual’ Galaxy colours of black, gold, silver, and white.
We’ve reached out to Samsung Australia about an early launch, but we’ve not heard anything as yet. If they do stick to an IFA launch schedule, then we’ll see what they have to offer when we’re in Berlin.
