You know it’s close to IFA time when the leaks start getting better, and this one is a beauty. It’s from what appears could be an official Sony Georgia page on Facebook, spotted by Evan Blass (who kindly translated the Georgian to English), has confirmed the three headline devices we expected to see from Sony in a week’s time at IFA 2015 in Berlin.
Three new smartphones are coming, in the form of the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact which have both been rumoured for a little while, and a surprise entrant, the Xperia Z5 Premium / Plus. The information below comes from the Facebook post, and fits nicely with the information we’ve heard from other sources thus far.
Here’s what we know:
- Xperia Z5 Compact will be a 4.6″ screen with 720p HD display.
- Xperia Z5 will be a 5.2″ display with 1080p Full HD.
- Xperia Z5 Premium will be a 5.5″ display with 4K 2160p UltraHD, with an insane 800+ pixels per inch. In keeping with the premium tag, there’s every indication that this will be a smart looking device, with mirrored surfaces to complement its powerful display.
Across the range will be Sony’s in-house 23 megapixel camera (which we’re unlikely to see other manufacturers get their hands on), which features a super-fast 0.1-second autofocus, F/1.8 aperture to compete with the big boys, and 1/2.2 inch sensor. Details of the camera beyond this aren’t known in detail, but the range will feature optical image stabilisation and enhanced processing on-board for great performance across all situations, but a special focus on great low-light performance.
One of the other features which has been rumoured is the inclusion of a fingerprint sensor in the newly designed power button, enhanced battery capacities across the range and compact design.
Sony’s announcement at IFA 2015 is in just 7 days now, and both Daniel and Jason will be there to cover it first-hand, to fill in any gaps in what we already know about Sony’s new range of handsets.
