Google’s Nexus Protect hardware insurance plan was announced at their Nexus event on Wednesday morning and has since shown up on the US Google Store for people purchasing the Nexus 5X and 6P. While the Nexus 5X and 6P won’t be shipping till later this month, Google has launched the MyNexusProtect website in preparation for the first claims.
The website is fairly basic and features a contact form, as well as information about Nexus Protect, an FAQ and a link to learn more about Assurant Solutions – the company underwriting the program.
The Nexus Protect program costs US$69 for the LG built Nexus 5X and US$89 for the larger Huawei built Nexus 6P with a US$79 excess fee to be paid per claim. Nexus Protect allows for unlimited mechanical fault based claims, and two approved accidental damage claims within the 2-year term. Claims have to be made within 90 days of the incident.
If you’re interested in checking out Nexus Protect, the FAQ is pretty interesting, you can head over to mynexusprotect.com right now.
