HTC’s One M9 was a bit of a disappointment last year. The phone itself actually performed quite well, but was let down by the problematic Snapdragon 810 processor and the camera in a year where cameras on Android phones really came of age. The HTC One M10, codenamed ‘Perfume’, however sounds like it could answer all these criticisms and more.
Writing over at his new virtual home, Venture Beat, leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) has given a run down on the upcoming HTC One M10 based on information from someone who has used a prototype of the phone.
According to the source, the One M10 will feature a Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage with a microSD card slot as well. The phone will have a QuadHD (2560×1440) resolution 5.1″ display, which could possibly be AMOLED, a new move for HTC who has used SuperLCD screens for their flagships previously.
The phone will also come with better camera hardware, with HTC choosing to use a 12-UltraPixel sensor on the rear that may offer a good balance between the low-light performance of their previous UltraPixel sensor and the full-size 20MP sensor used on the One M9. HTC will apparently also offer Optical Image Stabilisation and laser auto-focus on the One M10 as well, which should allow for outstanding low-light performance.
Design wise, the device viewed was a prototype so final design wasn’t set in stone, but HTC will be using a fingerprint sensor on the One M10, though it will be mounted on the front of the phone beneath the screen similarly to the HTC One M9+.
HTC will launch the phone with Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow), though it will come with HTC’s Sense 8.0 UI – though what changes will be introduced in this new flagship isn’t mentioned.
According to Evan, the phone will not be launched at MWC next month, with HTC choosing to launch the phone at a stand alone event at a later date. We’ll know more when HTC start talking about their plans for MWC and of course if they mention any additional dates for events.
