We’re nut tellin’ you yet. Is as close as Google has come to commenting on the potential name for Android N, the next version of Android, but it turns out there’s a reason that they haven’t named it yet. They want us to.
As teased by Google CEO Sundar Pichai during a visit to India, during their Google I/O Keynote Dave Burke, VP Engineering (Android) at Google, announced that Google was going to let users name the tasty treat for which Android N will be forevermore associated. While there’s a lot of N desserts out there, there was one rule: You can’t name it Namey McNameface, so you’re going to have to think of something else.
If you’re looking for inspiration for a team made of the wrong stuff here’s a video outlining their creative process.
The first two release candidates were known as Astro and Bender – but Android 1.1 was apparently known as “Petit Four.” Typically, though Android versions since Android C have been named after “tasty treats” so far we have had:
- Cupcake
- Donut
- Eclair
- Froyo
- Gingerbread
- Honeycomb
- Ice Cream Sandwich
- Jelly Bean
- KitKat
- Lollipop
- Marshmallow
If you want to put your favourite N based tasty treat in the running head here, and good luck.
