If you’ve never heard of Amazon Prime Video Streaming before hearing about The Grand Tour, then you’re not alone. Amazon’s video streaming service has been around for a while, but it wasn’t until they signed the trio formerly from Top Gear that the service got a big boost in public awareness. It seems that Amazon has quietly flicked the switch on Amazon Prime Video overnight, with Cam Simpson at Gizmodo and Trevor Long at EFTM both confirming they’ve been able to sign up and start streaming video.
To sign up to Amazon Prime Video, you need an Amazon Prime membership. There are a swathe of other benefits to Prime beyond video streaming, but we’re less interested in those for present purposes. Simply head over to Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk and click on one of the many advertisements for Prime membership, you’ll be able to sign up.
The billing is done in the local currency, meaning you’ll pay either $US10.99 or £7.99 per month, but you’ll then be able to watch any Amazon Prime Video title using the service.
From what we understand, Amazon Prime video was not previously available in Australia, suggesting that an official launch is around the corner, perhaps in time for the worldwide launch of The Grand Tour tomorrow, well, at least in the UK or the US.
At this stage, you will need to watch through your browser on a desktop, as using a mobile browser prompts you to install the Amazon Prime Video app, which isn’t available in Australia just yet. Of course, you can grab Amazon Video from APK Mirror and install it that way, and it just might work.
We’ve got the app shortcut here just in case it gets released onto the Australian Google Play store, but bear in mind it probably won’t work just yet.
