Android Wear 2.0 was announced just over a week ago and we are already seeing developers begin to release their apps for it. Uber is one of the first to update their app with Android Wear 2.0 standalone functionality.

The new Uber update for Android Wear 2.0 brings with it the ability of the wearer to use Uber directly from their wrist, no matter where their phone is. Using their watch the user can request a ride, check their ride’s progress and check out the details of the incoming driver.
The LTE connection available in the new Android Wear 2.0 watches (which LG and Google are so far declining to bring to our shores) allows this phone-less use of Uber. If your watch does not have LTE or you simply do not have LTE activated on your watch then you will still need to have your phone handy to interact with Uber on your watch.
At this stage the app is available only for watches running Android Wear 2.0 and can be downloaded from the Play Store for free. Hopefully we will see some Android Wear 2.0 goodness arrive downunder soon so we can begin to partake in some of these new apps and functions.
