BP Australia has gone on a bit of an advertisement push over the last 24 hours as the petrol company rolls out their new app called BPme to their national network of service stations.
The app, was announced last year and has had a slow rollout, with a beta testing phase and finally BP staff at your local servo have only now been trained on the system and so now it’s ready to rock. The app is available from both Google Play and iOS app store, and requires a login – either through a BP account, or your PayPal account, but you can use your Visa or Mastercard if you don’t want to use your PayPal account.
The BPme app offers the option to find the nearest BP Servo across Australia letting you search for service stations nearby which have different facilities including which ones have an ATM, toilet, all the types of Petrol, Diesel and LPG as well as Gas bottle swaps. Barista coffee or Takeaway foods are also searchable and if the car is a bit of a mess you can look for a BP with a car wash.
With payment functions built-in, once you’ve found your nearest servo the app offers customers the ability to basically to fill up and go without the need to wait in queue in store. You pull up, enter the pump number and confirm your payment method in the fuel app. The pump will unlock, which you can do before getting out of the car to fill up (a good safety measure), once you’re finished fuelling up, you’re good to go.
A transaction summary is generated every time you use the app, showing your transaction history and a tax invoice will be emailed to you.
At this stage, Android Pay isn’t an option which I think is something that should be incorporated into the app, but we can’t have everything and some people don’t have access to Android Pay as yet.
