After beta testing the software with users for several months, Samsung has begun rolling out the Android 8.0 (Oreo) update to the Galaxy S8 and S8+.

The rollout appears to have begun in Germany, with Allaboutsamsung.de reporting that the final release update is heading to Beta testers now. The testers are receiving a 487MB release, while users not involved in the Beta should see a significantly larger update when the OTA rolls out more broadly.

For Android purists, the news isn’t good with the Samsung Oreo update for the Galaxy S8/S8+ reportedly not supporting Googles faster update strategy: Project Treble. The update does include all the February security patch, as well as the rest of the features of Oreo and an updated version of the Samsung Experience UX.

At this stage none of the Australian carriers are listing the Android 8.0 update for the Galaxy S8/S8+ as being tested, but that could change shortly. No reports of the Oreo update being received on unlocked handsets has been reported either, but it could only be a matter of time.

If you’re seeing the update on your Galaxy S8/S8+ then let us know.
