Amazon are a behemoth that is for sure but only arrived with their online shopping store in Australia last year. At that early stage they had only one fulfilment centre for the entire country in Melbourne. Now due to a growing customer demand they are opening up a new fulfilment centre in Sydney.
The new fulfilment centre — in the Goodman Centenary Distribution Centre in Moorebank, South West Sydney — will be a 43,000 square metre facility and provide easy access to both the M5 and M7 freeways. Not only will this provide much easier and faster access to Amazon’s goods for those in that part of the world but also provide a large number of jobs for the area.
We are thrilled to be establishing our next fulfilment centre in Sydney and working with incredible people in the local community around Moorebank. Sydney represents another important development for our growth strategy in Australia, following a steady and progressive increase in customer demandRobert Bruce, Amazon Australia Operations Director
The additional fulfilment centre will allow Amazon to meet current customer demands as well as future demand as well as well as providing faster shipping of products. Not only will customers benefit but Amazon see small and medium-sized Australian businesses who sell on Amazon benefiting in the ability to have greater access to customers all over the country.
The new Sydney fulfilment centre with commence operations in the second half of this year and if Amazon continue to grow it will no doubt be joined by more in the future.
