Audio maker JBL has today unveiled a new soundbar in their LINK range, announcing the JBL LINK BAR powered by Android TV complete with Google Assistant built-in.
There are precious few details on how the Soundbar will integrate with the TV, nor any information on specs or pricing – though this will be announced later this year. We do know that the Link Soundbar will include an Optical In and 3.5mm in, as well as an Ethernet port (there’s Wi-Fi as well) and 3 HDMI inputs with an ARC HDMI out and a Subwoofer pairing button on the back of the bar. The top of the bar will include an Input Selector button, Bluetooth button that allows for Input select, and remote or smartphone pairing) as well as Volume Up/Down and a mute microphone button.
The JBL Link Bar will include Google Assistant, with far-field microphones picking up your voice, the familiar Google Assistant LEDs (four LEDs) will shine through the front grille of the Link Bar.
As far as the combination of Google Assistant and Android TV, it appears that you’ll be able to ask the Link Bar to show you your Calendar or the Weather on the display.
With Android TV on board, you will of course have access to the full suite of Android TV specific apps through Google Play, and voice search as well.
As far as availability is concerned it’s expected in the US ‘this fall’ and we’ve reached out to JBL Australia to find out if the Link Bar will be heading down under.
