After the leak on Monday of the screen protectors for the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, it appears the floodgates are starting to open on Pixel leaks with details on the screen for the Pixel 3 XL now coming to light.
While the Pixel 3 will have a relatively standard, apparently 18:9 aspect ratio display, the larger Pixel 3 XL will have a notch in the larger panel. The larger Pixel 3 XL will take advantage of notch support which was announced in the Android P Developer Preview, with the panel for the notched display supplied by none other than Pixel 2 XL maker: LG.
The information comes courtesy of known leaker for supply chain, Ice Universe, through his profile on Chinese social networking site Weibo. The post is fairly simple, and though it doesn’t shed light on the smaller Pixel 3 display, it’s pretty definite about the Pixel 3 XL:
There’s little reason for us not to believe that LG will supply the AMOLED panel for the Pixel 3 XL, given that Google has previously been rumoured to have invested in LG’s display division. Google has been quite well acquainted with LG in terms of OEM production with LG making at least three Nexus phones, as well as partnering with them on other projects including the original Pixel and the sequel.
The end of year Pixel event has been held on October 4th for the past two years, so we’re looking at a few more months until we see something official. Until then it appears we could be seeing a lot more leaks in the lead up.
Will you be grabbing a Pixel 3 XL with a notch in the display or opting for a smaller Pixel 3 without?
