Better late than never. Android 8.0 Oreo has been out for close to ten months now and while many phones have already received an update to Oreo, even more have not. We saw Oreo roll out to some Samsung Galaxy S8 models and now their even older phone, the Galaxy S7 Edge, has started receiving Android 8.0.
We became aware of the Android 8.0 Oreo roll out to Vodafone Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge phones thanks to a tip from a reader (thanks Grant!) and now we have seen it arrive on more than one device, on multiple carriers. The build number rolling out (for Vodafone models) is R16NW.G935FXXU2EREM and brings not only the Android version number to 8.0 but also the Samsung Experience to 9.0 and includes security updates up to April 1, 2018.
**EDIT** thanks to all for commenting here and on our Facebook page. It seems that the update is rolling out to Optus, Telstra and non-carrier phones as well. We have one report of it arriving for standard Galaxy S7 phones as well.
Samsung should be congratulated for providing this update — not many phones that are over two years old will receive updates like this. If you own one mash that “check for update” button and let us know when it arrives and what you think of Samsung’s take on Android 8.0.
