OnePlus have improved the hardware quality in their devices year after year and now that has not only led to success but also expectations. No longer can we say “but they are cheap” to explain away failures in hardware and that has put a lot of pressure on their devices every year.

This year they are looking to up the ante even more with their display. They may have revealed it earlier this year but for those who have forgotten, leaker Ishan Agarwal has sent out a Tweet reminding everyone of it.

Earlier this year OnePlus teased their new display calling it the “Fluid Display”. Although it seems to be the same hardware as that in the OPPO Find X2 Pro with the same specs its effectiveness will come down to OnePlus’ ability to make use of these specs with their software enhancements.

The specs for the display, as also referenced in the above Tweet, include a 120Hz refresh rate, 6.78-inch size with punch hole for the selfie camera, MEMC support that will enable upscaling of video quality, a touch sampling rate of 240Hz, a display brightness that they originally said was “more than 1000 nits” that the leaker above suggests is 1400 nits, a true to life display with a JCND ratio of less than 0.8 and support for 10-bit colour.

According to the leaker, and not surprisingly, Oxygen OS will get smoother and faster and with more optimisations. Apparently the haptic engine has also been upgraded to provide better haptics.

At the same time an image of a OnePlus 8 Pro riding the subway has surfaced showing very very little aside from confirming the camera module on the rear of the device — and possibly a very blurry selfie cutout……

With OnePlus set to announce the OnePlus 8 series on April 15 you can be sure we will see more leaks in the next two weeks. This year, like last year, the hype is looking to be able to be matched by the product they produce. Anyone here looking to import one? I know I am.
