Telstra’s 5G home internet was launched late last year to select customers, and this year is set to expand to even more customers, along with doubling the monthly quota from 500 GB to 1 TB.

5G home internet can be a great stopgap for unreliable NBN services, or as a primary connection for those who aren’t able to connect via other methods. Telstra’s 5G network is set to cover 75% of the population by the end of June, so it’s likely you’ll be able to benefit from the increased coverage if you’ve been waiting.

Telstra reports that peak hour speeds sit at between 50 Mbps and 600 Mbps – which is admittedly a huge fluctuation – but average speed tests measure at 378 Mbps which exceeds speeds on the majority of hardwired connections.

Having recently acquired a necessary 5G mmWave spectrum, Telstra customers will enjoy faster speeds across the network thanks to the reduced congestion that this technology allows.

“Our goal is very simply to offer the right internet connection to deliver the best experience for our customers –one that is based on their needs, their location, and what technology is available to connect them,” said Telstra Group Executive of Product and Technology, Kim Krogh Andersen
