Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 has generated significant buzz, with analysts predicting it could become the company’s most expensive console yet. A new Bloomberg report suggests that Nintendo may launch the highly anticipated Switch 2 at a price exceeding $400 USD, setting a new high for its gaming consoles. Despite the steep price, analysts believe strong demand could help the console break industry records for first-year sales.
Strong Sales Expected Despite High Price Tag
Bloomberg journalist Takashi Mochizuki spoke with industry analysts and Nintendo’s software and hardware partners. Most agree that the Switch 2 will start at no less than $400 USD. Some warn that US tariffs could push the price even higher.
However, analysts remain optimistic about sales. Many expect a strong lineup of launch titles to drive demand, even with a higher price tag. “They will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months in particular, almost regardless of the price,” says Serkan Toto, an analyst in the gaming industry in Tokyo.
Highly Anticipated Launch Titles
Nintendo has already confirmed a new Mario Kart game, showing early footage in the console’s reveal trailer. Fans also anticipate Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which could launch as a cross-generational title. A potential new Animal Crossing installment may also arrive, given the franchise’s past success.
Will Genshin Impact Finally Come to Switch?
Beyond the mainstream media’s predictions about the launch lineup, I am personally eager to see Genshin Impact appear on the new console. Since its initial release, the game has promised a Switch version, but the launch plan has been repeatedly delayed. One of the key reasons is that the original Switch’s technical limitations failed to meet the developers’ expectations. Now, with the more powerful hardware of the Switch 2, I am excited about the possibility of Genshin Impact launching alongside the new console from day one.
Nintendo plans to reveal more details during ‘Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 – 2.4.2025’ which will air on Wednesday, 2nd April. The company is likely to open pre-orders at the same time. This will give eager fans a chance to secure the console ahead of its expected June release.
With innovative hardware and a compelling game lineup, the Switch 2 looks set to make a major impact in the gaming world.
