Google’s announcement this morning of the Chromecast 2015 and the companion Chromecast Audio dongles has caused a stir. The updated features with dual band Wi-Fi and support for 802.11 AC is brilliant, and the Chromecast Audio could revolutionise multi-room audio – that is if you can get them.
Google announced that the new Chromecast and the Chromecast Audio would be going on-sale in 17 countries today priced at US$35 each ($49AUD). They have now updated the hardware availability page and unfortunately Australia is not one of those 17 countries. with Google listing the countries:
Chromecast 2nd Generation
Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States
Chromecast Audio
Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States
The release date for Chromecast gen 2 and Chromecast Audio in Australia hasn’t been announced, and the US PR team had nothing further to add in terms of availability at the event. It’s a matter of wait and see.
