Following yesterday’s rumor of a Pixel C device running Android, Google has officially announced the project just a few hours later. The Pixel C is Google built high-end Android tablet, billed as a re-imagining of the Android tablet to enhance the devices for consumption, play and productivity.
Pixel C
- 10.2″ 1:squareroot aspect ratio like the ‘A’ series paper
- 2560 x 1800 screen resolution @ 308 ppi
- Full sized, magnetic, ‘inductivly’ charged (by the tablet itself) keyboard – similar to the Pixel 2
- Anodized aluminum design
- Nvidia Tegra X1 processor
- USB Type-C
- Stereo Speakers
- Light Bar with intergrated tap to display battery level – like on the Pixel 2
That’s a fairly impressive list of specs, and with Google’s previous success in making fantastic Chromebook Pixel laptops, it will be interesting to see how well the Pixel C tablet stacks up in the Android space. Pricing for the Pixel C starts at US$499 for the 32GB model and $599 for the 64GB model, with the keyboard accessoriy selling for US$149.
On stage they teased “expect to hear more about the Pixel C in the coming months” and in the press release they announced ‘the Pixel C will be available in time for the holidays on the Google Store’ – though this is expected to be US-only, at least to start with.
With tablets often searching for a reason to exist in a world of large phones and small laptops it’s interesting to see Google step into this market segment and put their spin on it. The Pixel line has thus far been not officially available in Australia, Chris is in the ground and we will be reporting back if we hear about official Australian availability.
