If your wallet isn’t hurting already from the leaks of a new Daydream View, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL and Google Home Mini, then the Pixelbook will be the final nail in that coffin.
The Chrome OS based Pixelbook will be launched alongside all the rest of Google’s goodies on October 4th. The Pixelbook will come in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB storage options and come in this lovely silver colour…just like the previous two Chromebook Pixels.
As you can see from the image, the Pixelbook will convert to a tablet mode thanks to what appears to be 360-degree hinges attaching the screen to the body. This will perhaps finally be the Chrome OS tablet that we’ve all wanted.
The Pixelbook will be premium enough, but for those wanting a stylus, a Pixelbook Pen will also be sold seperately for $99USD (about $124AUD). The pen which you can see below will be pressure sensitive with tilt support and ‘no lag’. It will be coloured the same as the Pixelbook and have a button which could possibly launch Google Assistant which has been teased as coming to Chrome OS for some time.
Now for the price of the Pixelbook itself. The device will come in three storage options: 128GB, 256GB and 512GB with the 128GB priced at $1,199USD ($1,496AUD), the 256GB model at $1,399USD ($1,745AUD) and finally the 512GB model will be priced at $1,749 (that’s $2182.70AUD).
The prices are high, and it remains to be seen whether Google will bring their first high-end Chrome OS device to Australia or not. We certainly hope so, but hope they can do something about those prices before they do.
